Squadron Sports Officer
We are currently looking for a new staff team member who is physically fit and able to conduct indoor and outdoor training activities. You must be aged at least 20 to become adult staff with the RAF Air Cadets.
This is a new position within the staff team and so the ability to plan and deliver training and activities will be entirely down to yourself with guidance to arrange and integrate into the Squadrons training.
We are looking to get far more involved with the RAF Air Cadet sports. These are Athletics, Cross Country, Swimming, Rugby, Netball, Hockey and Football.
There are regular competitions held annually all the way to a national level and your job would be to ensure we send strong teams to each event whilst encouraging cadets to attend the Wing led training sessions for the latter 4 sports - and potentially assist them in doing this.
Additionally you would nurture and encourage the development of sport on the Squadron and run a sports training program for use in the Duke of Edinburgh award maintaining accurate records.
You would develop an exciting and engaging training program taking into account all abilities to ensure maximum participation and fulfillment.
You would assist the Sqn Adjutant to ensure all sport opportunities are offered to the cadets and staff.
It is desirable to already hold relevant qualifications and/or experience. You must be physically fit and able to encourage and develop the fitness of the cadets.
The Squadron has a policy that any staff training involving a cost that benefits the cadets will be paid for in full or partially by the Squadron.
Once confirmed as adult staff you can claim motor mileage for official activities and training, and if you progress into uniformed service then also remuneration in line with RAFAC policy - upto 28 days per year.
You need to be willing to undergo DBS and BPSS Checks prior to full time attendance. There is an Adult Volunteer Induction Program involving self learning in your own time and at Squadron as well as one day held at Wing HQ.
You need to be able to attend regular Tuesday and Friday evenings between 7pm and 9.30pm and occasional weekends.
If you have a DBS annotated child workforce and enhanced against barring list dated within the last 6 months you will be able to start immediately whilst a fresh check is carried out.
A car and driving licence would be beneficial. Those with no points can drive our minibus on a car licence or you can also be trained to D1 licence through the RAF Air Cadets.
