Good Friend Befriending Volunteer
A Good Friend is someone who would like to lend a hand and be a friend to an older person in his or her community.
The scheme matches people in their own are, offering small bites of time with older people who need a helping hand eg. gardening help, walking the dog, taking out the bins or popping round for a drink and a chat. Good friends can do this at their own times and frequencies agreed with the older person.
Good communication skills.
A resourceful attitude and willingness to identify the needs of older or vulnerable people.
An understanding of confidentiality.
A liking for, and an empathy with, older people.
A friendly and cheerful manner.
Patience and sensitivity.
A willingness to work to the project's guidelines and policies, for example Health and Safety and Confidentiality.
We will aim to address / accommodate access needs wherever possible.
A Criminal Record Check (DBS) and two references will be required.
