Surf mentors

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help support young people during their 6 week surf therapy course. Our young people are referred to us by professionals after being highlighted as being at risk of poor mental health. All young people are supported one to one by volunteer surf mentors, who assist them both in and out of the water.

Skills or experience required?:

You do not have to be able to surf to be a volunteer surf mentor. We also have coaches in attendance who are doing the teaching. The role of the surf mentor is to physically assist the young person carrying their board, getting on to it and pushing them into waves. The most important part of the surf mentor role is to 'share the stoke' with the young person, cheering on all successes, and encouraging them to do the same for others.
