IDAS Refuge Support Volunteer - York & North Yorkshire
IDAS (Independent Domestic abuse Service) is seeking an enthusiastic volunteers for a rewarding role in assisting with our refuges and dispersed properties. This is a hands-on role which includes actively supporting clients in a practical way.
Our refuges and dispersed properties provide a safe living environment for victims who are escaping domestic abuse. The properties are residential in nature, leading to many and varied opportunities for volunteers - no two days are the same! Such opportunities could include: orientation and welcoming of new residents; assisting in the preparation of vacant properties; providing emotional and practical support to clients; and group activities with resident children.
The role requires an individual who understands the importance of working in a trauma-informed way and can maintain professional boundaries while in the residential setting.
The role offers the opportunity to volunteer within a specialist charity doing vital work to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We offer thorough and on-going training to our volunteers and additional shadowing of our Practitioners.
We are ideally looking for volunteers who can dedicate 4 hours per week.
Volunteers will have:
Basic IT and Organisational skills
A strong commitment to and understanding of confidentiality
An understanding of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence is desirable
DSB clearance is essential (Welcome Fast-Track applicants with a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) on the Online Update Service)
Volunteer tasks:
Provide practical and emotional support to clients
Leading with a trauma-informed approach
Administrative tasks such as updating case management system
Email correspondence with clients and other stakeholders
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) adherence
Attendance to regular meetings with local teams and mangers
