IDAS Emotional Support Volunteer - IDAS locations in North Yorkshire
IDAS (Independent Domestic Abuse Service) is seeking an enthusiastic volunteer for a rewarding role, providing ongoing emotional support for clients who are leaving service. Volunteers can support survivors who are managing their lives beyond abuse, developing resilience and coping strategies.
We are looking for someone who is non-judgmental, demonstrating confidence and compassion when speaking with survivors. This role involves emotional support to individuals who may re-visit their trauma, and an existing knowledge of local services will be helpful to effectively signpost survivors if required.
Please note, there may be discussions that could have an emotional impact on the volunteer; please carefully consider whether this is a suitable role for you. We place premium importance on the well-being of our clients and volunteers.
The role offers the opportunity to volunteer within a specialist charity doing vital work to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We offer thorough and on-going training to our volunteers and additional shadowing of our Practitioners.
We are ideally looking for someone who can dedicate 3 hours per week.
Volunteer will have:
• A high standard of communication skills, compassion, respect and understanding
• A strong commitment to and understanding of confidentiality
• Basic IT and organisational skills
• An understanding of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence is desirable
• DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance is essential (can be provided by IDAS).
Volunteer tasks:
• Administrative work and inputting notes onto the case management system
• GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) adherence
• Weekly attendance to the local office
• One-to-one support of survivors
• Follow up calls/emails to any clients in need of signposting to other agencies.
