Woodland Activities

We have lots of interesting tasks on our nature reserves!
People often ask if they can come and help – and of course, the answer is “Yes”!
Volunteering with Make it Wild is a great way to get some fresh air, do something useful, and give that bit back to nature. You will get to spend time in beautiful Nidderdale, or by the banks of the Nidd near Kirk Hammerton.
Tasks include conservation work like controlling gorse, spreading tree and wildflower seed, controlling invasive plants, and removing tree tubes from trees that are large enough to thrive without them. During the winter months we also need help with tree planting.

Please note that volunteering opportunities are suitable for individuals or groups. Under 18s are welcome with a parent and will be the responsibility of the parent.

Skills or experience required?:

If you have experience, you can also help us with repairing dry stone walls, and some of the simple maintenance of our historic barns.
You will need to be reasonably fit. Bank Woods is quite steep in places; Dowgill Grange is quite rocky under foot. Sylvan is fairly level. None of our sites have any conventional infrastructure.
