Safe Haven Volunteer Host
IDAS (Independent Domestic abuse Service) is seeking volunteers to host individuals or families who have been subjected to domestic abuse, providing short term accommodation in a volunteer’s home. This is a hands-on role which includes supporting clients in a practical way.
IDAS provides safe accommodation through our refuges and dispersed properties; the Safe Havens initiative is an addition to this provision which offers clients the option to stay within a family environment for up to 8 weeks.
Volunteer hosts will work alongside IDAS to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for individuals and their children whilst they plan for their next steps.
The role requires an individual who understands the importance of working in a trauma-informed way and can maintain professional boundaries while volunteering in their own home.
The role offers the opportunity to volunteer within a specialist charity doing vital work to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. We offer thorough and on-going training to our volunteers and support from Practitioners whilst hosting.
Hosting can cover any time period from one night up to 8 weeks.
A strong commitment to and understanding of confidentiality.
Understanding of Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence are desirable.
DSB clearance is essential (Welcome Fast-Track applicants with a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) on the Online Update Service).
Provide a safe space for individuals and families to stay.
Provide practical and emotional support to clients.
Lead with a trauma-informed approach.
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) adherence.
Liaison with IDAS support workers.
