Community Fridge - volunteer driver
with Selby District AVS
Selby Community Fridge supports the environment and local people by making surplus, fresh, perishable food freely available. We collect waste food from local supermarkets and food retailers and redistribute via the Fridge, which is open 3 days a week.
In September, we will have Food Collection role available. These food collections are extremely important for the community fridge to run, as this is our main source of food income.
What will you be doing?
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning, you will be tasked with picking up crates of surplus food from multiple supermarkets, and delivering to the Fridge at Selby Community House before we open later in the day.
Where will I pick up the food from?
The local supermarkets in the area. This includes Aldi, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, and Co-op.
How important is this?
You will be essential in the running of the fridge, as without this food we would not be able to operate.
Are expenses covered?
Your fuel expenses for driving will be covered for the distance you have driven.
We must reiterate that this is a voluntary role and you will not be paid aside from the expenses covered. All applicants must have a valid driving license and insurance.
Food collections are critical to the Community Fridge - all we ask of our volunteers is commitment, good communication with the staff and volunteer team and a friendly manner. In return you'll be part of an amazing project, reaching over 80 families a week and saving over 1035kg of food a week from going to landfill.
