Group Support Peer Volunteer
Are you passionate about supporting women who have been subjected to domestic abuse regain ownership of their lives?
Would you like to help us with our vision where we live in a world where all are educated in all forms of domestic abuse and it is no longer tolerated, accepted or present in society?
Would you like a weekly (term time) role where your contribution is appreciated?
Would you like to volunteer in a friendly, supportive and safe environment with great learning and training opportunities?
Would you like a chance to meet new people whilst also making a huge difference?
Have you been subjected to domestic abuse and wish to support women through their healing?
We are looking for a positive, outgoing and empathetic person to join our volunteer team. The role involves supporting a peer mentor or peer facilitator in the running of a weekly support group. This includes helping prepare resources, welcoming attendees, serving refreshments and supporting the clients emotionally. In the absence of a peer mentor/facilitator we would require you to lead the group. This requires an open and non judgemental approach with a positive outlook, to build trust and ensure the provision of a safe and supportive environment. As such we are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills, a forward thinker with similar experience of either attending, running or supporting a group setting.
While monthly volunteer supervision will be provided we encourage those applying to have a strong awareness of their boundaries in order to protect their own mental health.
Please note this is not a counselling group, the aim is to create positive social networks in an environment that allows for basic welfare checks and timely signposting opportunities.
Availability required (in preferred location):

The service is a women-led peer service and is therefore restricted to women/non-binary (assigned female at birth) applicants under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 Part 1 & Section 7(2)e of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975
