Volunteer Gardener
Shandy Hall is a 600-year-old house in Coxwold, where two of the world’s great novels were written by Laurence Sterne. It is surrounded by 2 acres of garden, part cottage garden, part wild garden.
It has no paid gardener and needs more volunteers.
The garden is managed for wildlife. It is open to the public in the summer season. Visitor feedback regularly praises the peace and tranquillity of the gardens, and enjoyment of the wildlife it supports.
Other volunteers say they benefit from
• the fresh air and exercise,
• being in the garden in each other’s company and chatting to visitors
• enjoying the wildlife and the garden through the changing seasons
• the satisfaction of maintaining a significant garden and supporting nature
Can you help?
Head volunteer gardener Chris will welcome you and help find you suitable jobs.
Those with garden experience are very welcome, but no experience is necessary. Jobs can be found for all levels of skill. There is always a variety of jobs from which to choose, ranging from sweeping and tidying, leaf clearing, twig gathering, weeding and cutting back, to more skilled jobs like pruning.
You can garden alone or with other volunteers.
Work continues all year round, unless the weather forbids.
Own transport needed to get to Shandy Hall. Tools and refreshments provided!
