Collections Care

Our collections volunteers work together in small teams preserving, enhancing, and displaying the exhibits. It’s an opportunity to learn new skills and to share them in turn with others. It’s a very friendly environment so tea, coffee, and biscuits are also involved!

Recent projects have involved:
Caring for, and reframing, old photographs.
Researching the history of Nidderdale’s dams to produce new display boards.
Organising and cataloguing the extensive maps collection .
Conserving the leather books and cases.
Refreshing the displays of period clothes and costumes.

As well as hands-on activities, there are also opportunities to help with computer-based tasks, managing the collections database and beginning the process of curating an online experience to showcase the collection for anyone with a screen.
